In the new production process of ceramic fibers, aluminum chlorohydrate (ACH) mainly acts as a binder and forming aid, while also helping to improve the high-temperature stability of the fibers. Its core functions are achieved through two points:
1. Bonding and Shaping: During the drying or pre-firing stage of the ceramic fiber preform, aluminum chlorohydrate can form bonding bridges between fiber particles, firmly fixing loose fibers and preventing cracking and powdering during subsequent processing or use, helping the preform maintain its intact shape.
2. Enhanced High-Temperature Resistance: After high-temperature calcination, aluminum chlorohydrate transforms into high-temperature resistant alumina (Al₂O₃), which fuses with the main components of ceramic fibers, further improving the refractoriness and structural strength of the finished fibers and reducing shrinkage and deformation at high temperatures.
It's important to note that this is not used in all ceramic fiber processes; it's more commonly used in applications requiring high fiber strength and molding stability, such as the production of high-strength ceramic fiber boards and felts. Furthermore, it's essential to use aluminum chlorohydrate that is compatible with the formulation and fully meets the required standards.
